3 Things to Consider When Planning a Destination Wedding

Destination Wedding LocationsYou have just made the biggest decision of your life…you are getting married! And you and your spouse have decided on a destination wedding. After all of the newfound excitement of the engagement quiets down a bit, planning mode starts to kick in, as there are so many decisions to be made. With so many destination wedding locations to choose from, and all of the details that ensue, you have some work to do. Here are three things to consider when planning a destination wedding.

Start Early

You may think you have plenty of time, but when you begin researching your first choice destination, you may learn it’s a lot more expensive than you thought, or that traveling there is too complicated for you and your guests. Speaking of guests, they need lots of time, too. While six to eight weeks ahead is acceptable for sending invites to a traditional wedding, you will need to give at least four months notice to guests invited to a destination wedding.

Be Communicative

Send out save-the-date cards as soon as you know when and where you’ll tie the knot. It’s always a great idea to set up a wedding website to keep guests on top of details. Inform them if you’ve set aside blocks of hotel rooms and how to book them, what to pack, any discounted travel tips, what the itinerary of the big event will be and any other detail to help with travel plans and your guests stay.

Your Budget

You want to streamline costs, or even, in some cases, save money. At first thought, a destination wedding seems like it would be the most expensive way to get married. Not necessarily. It often turns out to be easier to keep costs in check in a faraway locale. One, you’re likely to have a smaller guest list. The biggest way to save money on your wedding is to keep your guest list lean. Two, your choices are more contained than they might be at home. When you are planning from afar, it all seems magical and exotic, so you are more likely to be pleased with a simple bouquet of flowers that the Inn provides, as opposed to at home where you would be sniffing out every florist shop and be more tempted for a lavish bouquet.

Planning Your Destination Wedding
